tab2tab() or something?

    Although, not designed for this specific use, you can do:

    $textarea = str_replace("\t", "     ", $_POST['textarea']);
    

    Or if you want the HTML equivalent of a space:

    $textarea = str_replace("\t", "&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;", $_POST['textarea']);
