    NSImage’s “imageNamed” method knows nothing about format strings.

    change this:

    statusItem.image=[NSImage imageNamed:@"status%lu.png",day];
    

    to this:

    statusItem.image=[NSImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"status%lu.png",day]];
