but the value of textfield is not changing.

Any Ideas what am i doing wrong ??

    try

    <script type="text/javascript">

    instead of

    <script type="javascript">

    . I believe the latter is not a valid syntax.

    Removing the type attribute entirely works as well:

    <script>
