    $( "#sort" ).sortable({

        $(#div1).css("background-color","yellow");
    });

    When you call initiate the plugin, make sure you pass a handler for the stop event:

    $('#sort').sortable({
        stop: function(){
            $('#div1').css('background-color','yellow');
        }
