How can I only have a rec button, and nothing more?

On your UIImagePickerController set mediaTypes to be an array with just kUTTypeMovie in it:

myImagePickerController.mediaTypes = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: (NSString *) kUTTypeMovie, nil];
