Slightly shorter version with awk. It will swap the first and last words regardless of number in between

    awk '{t=$1;$1=$NF;$NF=t}1'

    Output

$ echo "super califragilisticly duper" | awk '{t=$1;$1=$NF;$NF=t}1'
    duper califragilisticly super
