If I understand correctly, you want the number of month boundaries crossed between two specific dates. You don’t need LINQ for that; this should work:

// Assuming DateTime startDate, endDate
int monthDiff = ((endDate.Year - startDate.Year) * 12) + 
                (endDate.Month - startDate.Month);
