    Ehm?

    var testVariable = 10;
    var oldVar = testVariable;
    
    ...
    if (oldVar != testVariable)
    alert("testVariable has changed!");
    

    And no, there is no magical “var.hasChanged()” nor “var.modifyDate()” in Javascript unless you code it yourself.
