    Are you sure it is readonly or that there is just no grid lines that show (so it looks sort of read only)?

    Really Excel is the one that is doing the work, so if it is readonly, then my approach to figuring it out would be to (reverse engineer it):

    1. copy the readonly version’s content
    2. create a new excel workbok and paste the content
    3. make sure that new workbook is exactly the way you want your final one to be
    4. save that new excel workbook as html
    5. compare that html excel just created to the html your application is currently generating

    Usually comparing what Excel creates to what you are generating will show the problem.
