    I hope I’m not missing anything, but this is how I’m using it:

    - (void)foo {
        static NSMutableArray *mutableArr = nil;
        if (mutableArr == nil) {
            mutableArr = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init...];
            // add more first time initialization as required
        }
        assert(mutableArr);
        // now, use mutableArr freely...
    }
