    NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
    [formatter setDateFormat:@"hh:mm:ss a"];
    NSString *timeStr =  [formatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]];
    

    The above code is with ARC otherwise you need to release formatter like

    formatter release
