I am reading in log data with the following time stamp format:

Sat Aug 07 04:42:21 2010

I want to convert it to something like this:

20100807044221

What is the best way to do this in perl? Thanks.

    Date::Parse may not be installed on all your systems, so you may want to use the following snippet:

    my ($sec, $min, $hour, $mday, $mon, $year) = localtime();

    my $timestamp = sprintf( "%04d%02d%02d%02d%02d%02d",
                              $year+1900, $mon+1, $mday, $hour, $min, $sec);

    print("Timestamp: $timestamp\n");

    Timestamp: 20100819135418
