    I assume you want to keep the default *scratch* buffer open. Add the following to your .emacs:

    (pop-to-buffer (get-buffer-create (generate-new-buffer-name "*scratch-org*")))
    (insert "Scratch buffer with org-mode.\n\n")
    (org-mode)
