I have a Booking controller class (generated, NetBeans), having “update” method, called from JSF from:

@ManagedBean(name = "bookingController")
@SessionScoped
public class BookingController implements Serializable {
...
    public String update() {
        try {
            getFacade().edit(current);
            recreateModel();
            JsfUtil.addSuccessMessage("Booking Update successful");
            return "booking";
        } catch (Exception e) {
            JsfUtil.addErrorMessage("[" + e.getClass().getCanonicalName() +
                "] " + e.getLocalizedMessage());
            serviceLogger.error("Booking not modified; reason: ",e);
            return null;
        }
    }
...
}

App is deployed on Glassfish 3.1.1. When editing data in the form I enter a duplicate value in one of the fields, wich violates unique constraint in the table. When submitting the form I get:

[javax.ejb.EJBException] Transaction aborted

as a JSF message (which means nothing to end user), and

My question is: how to discover which table, column and value caused the exception to make a message much more clear to the user?

    I use hibernate and enable parameter logging to debug things like this. I found you can do the same with eclipselink logging, then you could see what values are the problem. Set this in your persistence.xml:

    <property name="eclipselink.logging.parameters" value="true"/>

    From http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/Logging
