Question

I have a KML file that lists coordinates on a polygon for every country. I have a latitude and longitude pair and I would like to check in which country this location lies in. I want to do this in the most efficient way.

I thought parsing the KML file and searching one by one would be a pain for the user so I am assuming I should be able to store those countries and their coordinates in an offline (I want my app to work offline) database so that I do not have to parse the KML file everytime I launch my Android app.

I have two questions:

1. What is a good way to store those coordinates for fast and easy access?
2. Regarding number 1, what is a good methodology or algorithm to determine the country in which the location lies? I found on Google some algorithms to determine whether a point is in a polygon or not but I would like to know if there’s an easier way.

I think the best way to store those coordinates is to create a very simple class for each country which have just a 2D float tab(first D is for geopoint number, the second D has a size of 2 and contains lat or long)

With you coordinates list, you can create a list of Region(using Path and Region.setPath(Path, Region)) and call Region.contain(X, Y) to chack if the point X,Y is inside your country.
