       $(":button").click(function() {
            $("#inputdefect").submit() '{'  <-- is this typos?
                $.ajax({
                    type: "post",
                    url: "process1.php",
                    data: "status="+str+"&action=defstat",
                    cache: false,
                    success: function() {
                        $(".defect").removeAttr("checked");
                        return this;
                    }
                });
            '}' <-- is this typos?
        });
