look at this….
suppose html is this…

<label><input type="radio" name="color" value="red" checked="checked" />Red</label><br />
<label><input type="radio" name="color" value="red" checked="checked" />Blue</label><br />

then jquery will be

var the_value;
the_value = jQuery('input:radio:checked').val();
alert(the_value);
