    I suggest to use XPath:

    It will be something like:

    XPath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
    String expression = "orderId";
    InputSource inputSource = new InputSource(xmlInputStreamOrReaderOrSomethingElse). 
    String id = (String) xpath.evaluate(expression, inputSource, XPathConstants.STRING);
