    You have to put it before the first fade:

    $(".imgHover").hover(
    function() {
        $(this).children("img").stop().fadeTo(200, 0.85).end().children(".hover").fadeIn(100);
    },
    function() {
        $(this).children("img").stop().fadeTo(200, 1).end().children(".hover").fadeOut(100)();
    });
