I need not background a div.

How about changing your html to:

<td class="triangle">
<div>@Html.ImageContent("triangle_bonus.png", "")</div>
</td>

And adding this to the head of you html:

<style>
td.triangle {position:relative}
td.triangle div {position:absolute; right:0; top:0;}
</style>
