I stuck this in a .js file…

window.onbeforeunload = alert('onbeforeunload');

But it fires when the page is loaded, not when it is unloaded.
Does anyone know why?

    You have to wrap it… try this instead:

    window.onbeforeunload = function(){alert('onbeforeunload')};
