    Have you tried setting the INTERNET permission in the manifest file?

    Sample code:

    <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
      package="sample.hello"
      android:versionCode="1"
      android:versionName="1.0">

    <!--- Here is where you put your permissions. --->
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />

    <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name">
        <activity android:name=".HelloWorld"
                  android:label="@string/app_name">
            <intent-filter>
                <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
                <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
            </intent-filter>
        </activity>

    </application>
