    To track down the correct parameters you need to go first to ?plot.default, which refers you to ?par and ?axis:

    plot(1, 1 ,xlab="x axis", ylab="y axis",  pch=19,
               col.lab="red", cex.lab=1.5,    #  for the xlab and ylab
               col="green")                   #  for the points
