i was wondering if anyone knew how the “customers also bought” – algorithm works inside the itunes app store. Any chance to manipulate this, so I can show my other apps there?

NO!
Read this blog post by Jeff Atwood. They can manipulate you, but you can’t manipulate them. Moreover it will be wrong on your part.
Not there on the itunes app store, but you can show your apps at some point on an interface in your current app. Most apps doing this also provide links to their facebook or twitter pages.
