I’m trying to get my team’s Flash project on Facebook, but I cannot get any of the PHP-SDK examples to work. I’ve followed several examples, such as this new one on github (here). However, I keep getting a parse error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘{‘ in
/home/content/r/a/s/rashomon/html/projects/facebook/test/hellomyflash/index.php
on line 36

I downloaded the latest PHP-SDK. Here’s my file structure:

.../hellomyflash/

   index.php

   src/base_facebook.php

   src/facebook.php

   src/fb_ca_chain_bundle.crt

The only two lines I changed in index.php are the appId and secret.

index.php :

require '../src/facebook.php';

// Create our Application instance (replace this with your appId and secret).
$facebook = new Facebook(array(
  'appId'  => '###############',
  'secret' => '################################',
));

// Get User ID
$user = $facebook->getUser();

// We may or may not have this data based on whether the user is logged in.

if ($user) {

    $user_profile = $facebook->api('/me');
  } catch (FacebookApiException $e) {
    error_log($e);
    $user = null;
  }
}

// Login or logout url will be needed depending on current user state.
if ($user) {
  $logoutUrl = $facebook->getLogoutUrl();
} else {
  $loginUrl = $facebook->getLoginUrl();
}

// This call will always work since we are fetching public data.
$naitik = $facebook->api('/naitik');

</html>

I got the same “unexpected ‘{‘” error when following this example.

What am I doing wrong???

    Your server is most likely running PHP4, the code provided is for PHP5.

    PHP4 does not have try/catch blocks.
