I’m using gettext with python and google app engine and a cufón font and I lose international characters and I can’t display åäö for certain words eg to the left here it should say FÖLJ instead of FLJ:
The gettext translation .po that I compile to .mo with poedit contains this translation:

So one is working and not the other because the cufón font does not have åäö. The template is

I suspect that @equinoxel is right, the fonts you have chosen don’t have coverage for the characters you want.
According to the Cufón FAQ #3 “Some characters do not show up at all!”, the cause of this is, “Either you are not using UTF-8 or your font does not support the characters you need (or you simply forgot to include them when you generated the font)….” The solution is, “Make sure your pages are UTF-8 encoded and that you’ve selected the appropriate glyph ranges. Basic Latin should be enough for most English-only sites. Combine Basic Latin with Latin-1 Supplement and you cover most European languages.”
You don’t include the CSS for your page, so I’m not sure exactly which fonts are invoked. Nor do you include all of the second font. However, I do observe that both fonts you post have the text
"unicode-range":"U+0020-U+007E". This does not include the accented vowels which are dropping out.Also, I note the page text for the message which displays correctly is
{% trans %}DISTRIBUTOR{% endtrans %}, while the page text for the message which drops characters is<strong class="title">{% trans %}FOLLOW US{% endtrans %}</strong>. The<strong>element may be selecting a different font, which does not have the correct characters.Try dropping the
<strong>from around the{% trans %}FOLLOW US{% endtrans %}. If the Ö character appears, that’s a strong (heh, heh) indication that your font doesn’t have sufficient glyph coverage.
