    This works:

    if (cmisObject instanceof Folder) { ... }
    if (cmisObject instanceof Document) { ... }
    

    And this works:

    if (cmisObject.getBaseTypeId() == BaseTypeId.CMIS_FOLDER) { ... }
    if (cmisObject.getBaseTypeId() == BaseTypeId.CMIS_DOCUMENT) { ... }
