In the akka docs they specify that a message must be immutable an reference an example message that contains a final reference to a list. If java lists are mutable how is this OK?

    Just read the code and you will see that they make sure that the list is immutable:

    public class ImmutableMessage {
    private final int sequenceNumber;
    private final List<String> values;

    public ImmutableMessage(int sequenceNumber, List<String> values) {
        this.sequenceNumber = sequenceNumber;
        // HERE -- NEXT LINE MAKE SURE THAT THE LIST IS NOT MUTABLE:
        this.values = Collections.unmodifiableList(new ArrayList<String>(values));
    }

    public int getSequenceNumber() {
        return sequenceNumber;
    }

    public List<String> getValues() {
        return values;
    }
    }
