I’ve basically created a drop down menu using <ul> and <li> with <li> items

I’ve basically created a drop down menu using <ul> and <li> with <li> items ordered vertically. The <li> items however don’t fully occupy the <ul>, There is a vertical bar of unoccupied space at the left. What could be causing this?
