    For checked state

    Older browsers may need:

    <input type="checkbox" checked="checked" />

    But nowadays simply do:

    <input type="checkbox" checked />

    For unchecked state

    Remove checked attribute, like:

    <input type="checkbox" />

    Reference: http://www.w3.org/TR/html-markup/input.checkbox.html#input.checkbox.attrs.checked
