The elements of the array are arranged in non-decreasing order. I need to search the array for a given element in the least possible time.
Since the array is sorted you can make use of Binary Search.

linearsearch will takeO(n)time because it does not make use of the sorted property. But abinarysearch will takeO(log n)time.
