$("document").ready(function() {}); and $(function() {});

They are equivalent, the later is a shorthand form for the first.

From the jQuery documentation:

All three of the following syntaxes are equivalent:

$(document).ready(handler)
$().ready(handler) (this is not recommended)
$(handler)
