I think the .html() function looks like this in prototype

To retrieve the html

$('fruits').innerHTML;
// -> '<ul id="favorite"><li>kiwi</li><li>banana</li><li>apple</li></ul>'

To change the html

$('fruits').update('kiwi, banana and apple');
// -> HTMLElement
