    In the end the closest thing I found was NSConditionLock. You can set it to wait like this:

    [condLock lockWhenCondition: 1];
[condLock unlockWithCondition:0];

    and then signal it like this:

    [condLock lock];
[condLock unlockWithCondition:1];
