When I add GIF image ImageView it remains constant, i.e. it doesn’t animate. Why is it so? What should I do?

When I add GIF image ImageView it remains constant, i.e. it doesn’t animate. Why is it so? What should I do?
This is a general android feature – animated gif’s are old tech.
