    Dereferencing an int from a known pointer is always atomic on architectures running Mac/iStuffs. Use OSMemoryBarrier() if you need a memory barrier.

    int OSAtomicGet(volatile int* value) {
       OSMemoryBarrier();
       return *value;
    }
