but I can not find equivalent for Firefox and other browsers

beforedeactivate is an IE-specific event handler. The closest you can get are the focusout and blur events.

Usage in JQuery:

function eventHandler(){
    //...
};
$("element").focusout(eventHandler);
$("element").blur(eventHandler);
